It takes Courage to Look Back

Turning Pain into Purpose

“If I had known, I would have never…” Those words have not escaped my lips in over twenty-two years. I remember the exact moment I last uttered them, overwhelmed by broken trust and regret. But as time passed, my perspective shifted. Today, I embrace every experience—both good and bad—as an opportunity to learn, grow, and evolve. Most importantly, I see each challenge as a lesson that equips me to help others. I don’t regret; I learn.

Recently, I encountered someone from my past—a person who once embodied betrayal and pain. But instead of dwelling on the hurt, I chose to remember my strength, resilience, and the lessons I had learned. That difficult chapter in my life could have broken me, yet it became the foundation for my greatest growth. Like Joseph declared in Genesis 50:20: “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.”

Looking Back to Move Forward

Many advise never to look back. They say, “When life knocks you down, pick yourself up and keep moving.” But I have learned that reflecting on the past provides clarity and reason to celebrate progress. As I stood at the window of my history and looked in, I witnessed the deception and manipulation that once sought to entrap me.

I saw Greed and Deceit conspiring to take advantage of unsuspecting professionals. They targeted those who were vulnerable—divorced, single, introverted, or isolated. They used emotional manipulation as a tool to break strong women. Their strategy was to infiltrate, gain trust, and exploit weaknesses.

Sadly, many professionals, especially women, fall victim to such schemes without realizing it. Emotional manipulators prey on loneliness, ambition, and a longing for connection. Their tactics are subtle yet destructive. But awareness is the first step to breaking free.

Recognizing Emotional Manipulation

An emotional manipulator is a master of deception. Rather than earning influence through integrity, they manufacture control through deceit, guilt, and broken promises.

Tactics of a Manipulator:

Deceit: They twist the truth, withhold information, and fabricate stories to serve their agenda.
Guilt-Tripping: They shift blame, making their victims feel responsible for unfavorable outcomes.
Empty Promises: They keep minor promises to build trust but fail when it truly matters.
Control: Their need for dominance stems from deep insecurity, masked by confidence or charm.
Validation-Seeking: They thrive on admiration and will do whatever it takes to extract it from their victims.

Many victims stay because of low self-esteem or fear—fear of rejection, starting over, or being alone. But God calls us to walk in freedom, not bondage. Self-awareness is your greatest weapon. When you understand your worth in Christ, no manipulator can define you.

Breaking Free from Manipulation

If you discover that someone has been scripting your actions, do not react with anger—it only empowers them. Instead:

Cut Ties Indefinitely: Manipulators do not easily let go. Guard yourself.

Do Not Fall for Apologies: Many will attempt to regain control through guilt or persuasion. Stand firm.

Protect Your Story: Share your experience to empower others but do not expose the manipulator’s name. Redirect attention to your growth, not their deception.

Choose Wisdom Over Revenge: Manipulators crave attention—starve them of it.

Surround Yourself with Allies: Isolation is a manipulator’s greatest weapon. Build a strong, faith-filled network.

Be Your Sister’s Keeper

Women in professional spaces endure silent battles with manipulation and exploitation. Rather than competing, we must uplift and protect one another.

Manipulators use division to weaken their targets. But unity is strength. By creating safe spaces for honest conversations, we protect ourselves and others. Instead of isolating, let’s circulate—build strong alliances, support one another, and stand firm in faith.

A final encouragement: Every hardship you endure has the potential to become someone else’s survival guide. Let your story be a testament to God’s faithfulness. Learn, grow, and help others do the same.
