I consider myself a storyteller, and today, through stories, I want to remind you of two powerful truths: Thoughts are things—and powerful things at that. And, you will achieve if you persevere.
As a Christian professional and leader, your thoughts shape your destiny. Too often, we allow the words of others—or our own self-doubt—to dictate a life of mediocrity, failure, and defeat. Today, I challenge you to change the narrative. Speak life into your dreams. Whether you aspire to financial freedom, a position of influence, a legacy for your children, or a future brighter than your past—your thoughts and words hold the power to create that reality.
The Story of Monty Roberts
Monty Roberts, the son of a horse trainer, moved constantly as a child, making his schooling difficult. When assigned to write about his future, he crafted a seven-page paper detailing his dream to own a horse ranch, complete with drawings and specifications. His teacher gave him an F, calling his dream unrealistic for a poor boy with no resources.
Despite the teacher’s disbelief, Monty refused to let negativity dictate his future. He resubmitted the same paper, saying, “Sir, you keep the F, and I’ll keep my dream.”
Today, Monty Roberts owns a 200-acre ranch with a 4,000-square-foot home. His framed school paper hangs over his fireplace as a testament to the power of perseverance. Years later, the same teacher admitted he had been a “dream stealer,” but Monty had the guts to hold on to his vision.
What dreams have you abandoned because someone told you they were unrealistic?
J.K. Rowling: Rejected But Not Defeated
The author of Harry Potter didn’t magically become successful overnight. She was penniless, recently divorced, and raising a child alone while writing her first book on an old typewriter. Twelve publishers rejected her manuscript.
What if she had quit after the first rejection? Or the fifth? Or the tenth?
Instead of giving in to doubt, she spoke life into her dream, “I am good enough. I can do this. My book will sell.” And today, she is one of the most successful authors in history.
You will achieve if you persevere.
Colonel Sanders: Starting at 65
At age 65, Colonel Sanders received his first Social Security check for just $105. Instead of complaining, he acted. He believed in his fried chicken recipe and knocked on 1,009 doors before someone finally saw the value in his idea. Today, KFC is a global phenomenon because he refused to give up.
Walt Disney: Fired for ‘Lack of Imagination’
Before creating Disney World, Walt Disney’s first animation company went bankrupt. A news editor even fired him for lacking creativity. He was rejected 302 times before securing financing.
What if he had listened to the naysayers?
My Personal Story: From ‘Hopeless’ to Success
In high school, a teacher wrote “hopeless” in my record book and sent me home. That word could have destroyed me, but instead, it ignited a fire within me. I decided to persevere and create my own success story. Today, as a corporate leader, lecturer, and Christian professional, I have exceeded expectations—not because I was handed success, but because I refused to quit.
Speak Life Into Your Dreams
Your words must be mixed with faith. The only known way to develop faith is through repeated self-suggestion. Start today.
- Write down a clear vision of your strongest and most present desire.
- Set a deadline.
- Outline the steps you will take to achieve it.
- Speak it into being every morning and every night.
Example: By December 1, 2027, I will be the Commissioner of Police of the Royal St. Vincent & the Grenadines Police Force, earning over $20,000 per month. In return, I will give my most efficient service, producing excellence in leadership and law enforcement. I believe this position is mine. I can see it, I can feel it, and I will achieve it.
Napoleon Hill once said, “You are the master of your destiny. You can influence, direct, and control your environment. You can make your life what you want it to be.”
Final Word: You Will Achieve If You Persevere
As a corporate leader and human resource professional, I have the privilege of inspiring and motivating others to recognize their own greatness. Your past and present do not dictate your future.
So, start today. Think success. Speak success. Live success.
I’ll see you at the top!
