The topic for this blog is one that every Christian has faced at some point: “When the Journey Doesn’t Make Sense.” Today, I share a personal experience as I too try to maneuver faith and profession. I hope that you will be inspired by it.
“If I knew how things would have worked out, I would not have worried so much.”
How often have you found yourself reflecting on past challenges with this same thought? As professionals, we plan, strategize, and work hard, but sometimes life takes unexpected turns. The valleys—the low points of uncertainty and struggle—often make us question our direction. Yet, these seasons are not meant to harm us; rather, they are divinely orchestrated to position us for greater purpose.
The valley is that space between two hills—a place where we feel small, overshadowed by the towering obstacles ahead. I’ve walked through these valleys, and though the journey hasn’t always been easy, I’ve come to realize that God’s hand is always at work. Even when I don’t enjoy the process, I trust that He is using every experience for His greater plan.
Surrendering Control: A Faith Walk
I’ll admit it—I like to be in control. I like knowing the next step, mapping out my future, and determining my level of vulnerability. But faith requires surrender. It means shelving my own understanding and trusting my Heavenly Father to lead the way. Each day becomes a faith walk, a step into the unknown with the assurance that God is guiding my path.
Like Joseph, whose journey to the palace involved betrayal, hardship, and years of waiting, we may not always see how the dots connect. Yet, the Master Navigator, who has charted our course, ensures that every experience—every storm—is aligned with His divine will.
The Purpose of the Storms
Sometimes, God allows discomfort to propel us into our destiny. He shakes us from complacency, removes our safety nets, and stirs our spirits to embrace change. I once thought I had arrived at my final destination—everything seemed perfect. But then, without warning, the winds changed. One storm after another swept through my life, forcing me to rebuild, rethink, and reimagine my purpose.
Looking back, I see that every storm prepared me for where I am today. A particularly challenging season in 2022 built the resilience I needed for the trials of 2023. And through it all, God ensured that I had the strength, wisdom, and faith to endure. If you find yourself in a storm today, know that it is not meant to break you—it is meant to build you for the future God has designed for you.
Finding Purpose in the Valley
Maybe you are in a valley right now, unsure of what’s next. It may feel like you’re going in circles, waiting for clarity, longing for the mountaintop. But remember this: your valley is temporary. It is your place of preparation, not your permanent residence.
In my valley, I choose to trust Him. I choose to focus on what is true, noble, and praiseworthy. I choose to recognize that my journey is not just about me—others are being encouraged and strengthened through my testimony. While I eagerly anticipate the mountaintop, I am mindful that my presence in the valley has a purpose.
The Power of Prayer and Community
During one of my most stressful seasons, I faced an academic challenge that tested my integrity. An assignment I had worked hard on was flagged for academic integrity concerns, accusing me of using AI-generated content. The stress was overwhelming. Yet, rather than succumbing to fear, I sought wisdom, support, and prayer. Friends and family stood in the gap, and together, we fasted and prayed.
When the day came to defend my work, I felt God’s presence guiding me. The accusations were dismissed, and my work was validated. That small win reminded me that God is always fighting for us, even when we feel misunderstood or wrongfully accused.
Trusting the Master Navigator
There are some of us with special callings on our lives. Our paths may not be straightforward; they may be filled with unexpected detours and turbulence. But through it all, we can trust the One who holds the map.
If you are walking through a valley today, know that God has not forgotten you. He is leading you, refining you, and preparing you for a greater season. Trust His timing. Trust His plan. And when you finally reach the mountaintop, you’ll look back and see that every step—every challenge—was worth it.
Your valley is not the end. It is simply part of your journey to divine elevation. Keep walking in faith. The best is yet to come.
